Course Software

Note: This software page only pertains to courses that use Mathematica: Math 220, 231, 241, 285, 286, 380, 415 and 461. Other courses use other software or e-textbooks.

Mathematica Version 8

Students use Mathematica to complete assignments. After registering, you will receive a University of Illinois login, called a Net ID. This can be used to log into the University's online store, the Cites Web Store where you can purchase Mathematica at a substantial student discount.

Courseware

The courseware may be purchased in the form of CDs or directly downloaded from Make, a division of O'Reilly Publishing. They serve as our electronic textbook. The courseware title you will need depends on the course that you'll be taking.

Other Software

Mentor Chat

NetMath uses Elluminate, a web conferencing tool, in the chat room. You can share your Mathematica files on your mentor's chat screen and use voice or video chat, depending on your computer's capabilities. The student access link to join the chat room is available within the learning management system for your NetMath course.

Instructions for first time users: your computer has to be configured properly before you can use Elluminate. Please go to http://www.elluminate.com/support/index.jsp and complete steps one and two.

Archive Utility

If your computer cannot already open .zip files, you will need to install archive software.
