An Online Math Program

The Illinois NetMath distance education program offers online math courses for credit from the University of Illinois (an accredited university). Unlike most Internet math programs at other universities, this program is highly flexible. Students can enroll and begin the course at any time. Most students finish their course with 16 to 32 weeks. NetMath students never have to come to the Illinois campus. Exams are done through local proctoring and the quizzes are done online.

NetMath has served students online since 1991. The students served include a wide variety of students, including:

Our courses are visual, hands-on courses, which promote active learning. Students receive personal help from on-line mentors under the guidance of university faculty.

Traditional Mathematics courses typically emphasize the learning of mathematics through rote work, memorization, and mastery of hand methods of solving problems. Although this can result in creating a good human calculator, it is not conducive to in-depth and substantive understanding of mathematical concepts.

NetMath uses the award-winning Calculus&Mathematica (C&M) courseware. Since students use Mathematica software to help them step through the boring routines of traditional mathematical learning, they are free to achieve a better conceptual understanding of the material while still gaining a good knowledge of the methods of problem-solving. The end result is a student who really understands the material he or she is working on.
